Fasaadi Raat: Six Crime Stories of Deception, Memory and Survival
Fasaadi Raat is a collection of six crime stories set in very different circumstances. Five are full-length stories—Fasaadi Raat, Sapnon Ka Rahasya, Khooni Khel, Farebi and Shikaar—while Gumrah is a very short story. Together, they explore crime, deception, psychological confusion, revenge and the unexpected consequences of seemingly ordinary decisions.
The title story, Fasaadi Raat, follows a young man whose life changes completely after a single night in Delhi. A chain of events takes him through unexpected encounters, sexual relationships and eventually a death. A man who had lived an ordinary life with a clean image suddenly becomes a wanted criminal and is forced to leave not only the city but the country. He eventually settles in Kathmandu, only to encounter the people connected to the events that destroyed his life. The question then becomes whether he can settle his unfinished score with them.
Sapnon Ka Rahasya follows a man living a normal family life in Pune who begins experiencing unusually vivid dreams. The faces, places and events in these dreams have no apparent connection to his real life. Yet the dreams repeat and remain perfectly clear after he wakes up. Gradually, he discovers something terrifying: seven murders appear to have taken place in these dreams, murders carefully disguised as accidents or natural deaths. Even more disturbing is the fact that he appears to be the person committing them.
In Khooni Khel, Robin D’Cruz becomes trapped in a complex game whose apparently spontaneous events are actually being manipulated by someone who has anticipated possible outcomes. After an accident leaves Robin with a damaged and unreliable memory, fragments of his past become mixed together, sometimes even producing hallucinations. Unable to understand what is real, he depends on his wife while remaining unable to remember crucial details about her. When several bodies mark the final stage of the game, Robin finally begins to understand that he was never the player—only a pawn.
Farebi revolves around three people: a married couple and a young guest who arrives in Goa and chooses a homestay that hides a very different reality. None of the characters is exactly what they appear to be, and the real intentions behind their actions remain concealed until the final stages. In this game of deception, the hunter may ultimately become the hunted.
Shikaar follows Riddhi, a young woman whose ambition and immaturity lead her into an elaborate kidnapping plan designed to get something from her parents that she cannot obtain openly. But the person helping her is far more calculating than she expects and appears to anticipate every police move. The kidnapping game unfolds differently from the usual cases of its kind, leaving the final question: who actually benefited from the plan?
The final story, Gumrah, is a brief crime tale about a misguided young man willing to commit robbery to meet his girlfriend's expenses. But when circumstances turn against him, the plan begins to collapse in ways he never expected.
Together, the six stories of Fasaadi Raat use different forms of crime and suspense to explore how quickly ordinary lives can become trapped in situations beyond their control.
